History on this device

Full backups include your current inspection, saved history, photos and signatures. Keep one before switching devices. CSV is a spreadsheet export, not a full backup.

Your records exist only in this browser. Clearing site data deletes them, and Safari can clear a site's data after 7 days of Safari use without interaction on the site. Keep a backup or PDF of anything you must retain.

Add Roadmela to your Home Screen (Safari: Share, then Add to Home Screen) so it opens like an app and works without signal.

Saved inspections appear here. Nothing leaves this browser.

What the checklist is based on

    United States — FMCSA DVIR

The federal rule covers commercial motor vehicles: in interstate commerce, generally 10,001 lb GVWR or more, vehicles built or used for more than 8 passengers for pay (15 unpaid), or placarded hazmat (49 CFR 390.5). Motor carriers must have drivers report in writing at the end of each day's work on each vehicle, covering at least service brakes and trailer brake connections, parking brake, steering, lights and reflectors, tires, horn, wipers, rear-vision mirrors, coupling devices, wheels and rims, and emergency equipment. A written report is required when a defect is found or reported; drivers need not prepare one when there is none. Defects likely to affect safe operation must be repaired, and certified as repaired or unnecessary, before the vehicle is used again. Before driving, the next driver reviews the last report and signs it to acknowledge the repair certification. Carriers keep reports and certifications for three months; carriers running only one commercial vehicle are exempt (49 CFR 396.11 · 396.13; eCFR current to 19 Oct 2026, read 21 Oct 2026). The driver must sign the report, and reports and signatures may be electronic (396.11(a)(2)(ii) and (a)(6) · 390.32; eCFR current to 29 Oct 2026, read 31 Oct 2026).

Great Britain — DVSA walkaround check

DVSA's van guide lists checks inside (view and mirrors, wipers, warning lights, steering, horn, brakes, seat belts) and outside (lights, fluids and leaks, battery, bodywork, tyres and wheels, load, exhaust, number plates, tow bar and trailer). If you drive for a business with an operator licence, record defects with your assessment and who you reported them to, record "nil" when there are none, and fix dangerous defects before driving on (read 21 Oct 2026). This tool does not replace a legally required inspection record. It is a record aid for light vehicles. Requirements depend on the vehicle, the operation and the jurisdiction; follow your local regulations and your employer's procedure. A check tagged FMCSA or DVSA means that list names all or part of it; the tag is not a compliance claim.

How do I rate a defect?

Unsafe — do not drive means the vehicle stays parked until repaired and signed off. Check before driving means a supervisor or mechanic decides before the trip. Drivable — repair soon means it is safe to use and has been reported for repair.

Where are my photos and records kept?

In this browser's local storage on this device only. Photos are resized and stored next to the draft; nothing is uploaded. Clearing site data deletes them, and Safari can clear a site's data after 7 days of Safari use without interaction on the site. Add Roadmela to your Home Screen and download a full backup or PDF of anything you need to keep.

Can I print a blank sheet for the glovebox?

Yes. The start screen links a blank PDF form for each vehicle type, with tick boxes and signature lines. Inside an inspection, More options prints or downloads the sheet for your current template.

Can I sign on my phone?

Yes. Tap Sign on screen and draw with a finger. The signature, its time from your device clock and your printed name go on the PDF and print, and stay in this browser. If you change the report afterwards, the signature is left off until you sign again. You can also print the report and sign by hand.

    Does it work without signal?

After one visit, yes. The checklist, signatures, PDF and history keep working offline because nothing depends on a server. Adding Roadmela to your Home Screen makes it open like an app.

How many checks are in each template?

Car / pickup has 28 checks, van has 32 (it adds the cargo area) and vehicle + trailer has 37 (it adds the coupling and trailer). You can add your own checks to any template.

Can I use this as my legal DVIR?

It is a record aid, not a compliance certification. It follows the items named in the FMCSA and DVSA lists and records driver, repair and next-driver signatures, on screen or by hand, but whether it meets your obligations depends on your vehicle, operation and jurisdiction; follow your local rules and your employer's procedure.
